Winter is a real challenge for a car, and I know it well. This is the easiest time to make mistakes, but there are a few things I always try to keep in mind to avoid problems. For example, I never leave my car idle for a long time. Frosts are not the time for "winter hibernation" of the car. Once I left the car for a few weeks and it ended up with a dead battery and a bad smell in the cabin from moisture. Now, even in cold weather, I start the engine and go for at least a short walk.
What else is worth knowing?
Another important rule is rubber. Once I decided to save money and left the all-season. I'll be honest, it was terrifying: on a slippery road, the car drifted, the braking distance increased, and my nerves were really on edge. Now only winter tires. Safety is more expensive than any money.
Washing a car in winter is also mandatory. I once thought that washing a car in the cold was stupid, but then I noticed how salt and reagents eat the body. After that, he made it a rule to visit the car wash at least once every two weeks. And not only for the sake of the body, but also for the headlights to be clean - this is very important at night.
And I also had adventures with parking. Once I left the car on the side of the road, and in the morning it was covered with snow on the roof after the work of the snow removal equipment. Parked under a tree one more time, and then barely cleaned the ice from the hood. Now I always look for a parking lot or a place where there are less risks and I sleep more soundly.
In general, winter car care is not so much gloom as caring for yourself and your car. My approach is simple: move, take care of the tires, wash the car and think about where you leave it overnight. And then winter will definitely not be a problem.
