The doctor recommended scanning three areas of the legs for the first signs of dangerous blood clots.
Blood clots can mean bad news, especially when they form in the veins, also known as deep vein thrombosis.
Worryingly, the gel-like lumps can travel through the bloodstream to the lungs, where they can block one of the blood vessels, potentially leading to death.
DVT (deep vein thrombosis) usually affects the deep vein of the leg, the larger vein that runs through the calf and thigh muscles, causing the first signs in this area.
The doctor recommended monitoring these parts of the leg when scanning for symptoms:
- Caviar
- Ankle.
- Thighs
Classically, DVT presents as a dull ache in the leg, often in the calf, and sometimes in the calf and thigh. This is often accompanied by ankle swelling. In very severe cases, the swelling may spread to the thigh. There are cases when patients note swelling, but no pain, but this happens less often.
The cardiologist also added that it is "particularly worrying" if one leg is swollen more than the other, as common causes of swelling should cause both legs to swell equally. Patients with varicose veins should be "extra vigilant" when monitoring their legs for DVT.
If you notice red signs of blood clots in your legs, it's important to seek medical help, the expert added.
The good news is that many emergency rooms run a blood test called "D-dimer" to identify those at risk.
"If you suspect you have varicose veins, you should seek advice from a vein specialist to get a formal diagnosis and treatment to reduce your long-term risk of complications and DVT."
Products against blood clots
Certain foods have been linked to a reduced risk of blood clots or improved cardiovascular health.
Although no food can guarantee the prevention of blood clots. A balanced diet can help improve the circulatory system.
Foods that will help avoid the formation of rhombuses include: fatty fish, berries, dark chocolate, garlic, turmeric.
Not only food, but also drinks can reduce the risk of blood clots. The main drink that can reduce the risk is already in the tap in your kitchen - water. Drinking enough water helps maintain proper blood volume and promotes optimal circulation.
