The German government, which has sharply reduced arms exports to Turkey in recent years, has reversed course by approving major defense projects with the country.
As reported by Ukrinform, this is stated in the Spiegel publication.
With reference to the documents available in the publication, it is noted that the Federal Security Council of Germany made the relevant decision regarding the projects worth 250 million euros.
We are talking about 100 anti-aircraft missiles and torpedoes for the Turkish Navy, as well as large packages of equipment for the modernization of submarines and frigates. In particular, the price of RAM anti-aircraft missiles is likely to be around 100 million euros.
In addition, the Federal Security Council approved the supply of 28 SeaHake torpedoes from Thyssenkrupp's naval division for 156 million euros.
As indicated, in addition, consortia of German defense companies received contracts for the supply of materials for the modernization of Turkish submarines U209 with a budget of 79 million euros. The supply of engine parts for Turkish corvettes and frigates in the amount of 1,9 million euros is also allowed.
The total amount of approved contracts, according to Spiegel, could reach 336 million euros.
