The Roman chariot was found by archaeologists during the excavation of a mound in the Bulgarian province of Varna.

It was dated to the period between the 2nd and the beginning of the 3rd century AD, write Heritage Daily.

The chariot originates from the Roman era.

Scientists from the Regional Historical Museum in Varna say that the mound was built in stages. They started with a layer of marl, a type of soil rich in carbonate minerals, and later expanded with stone structures. Cremation pits were found inside the mound.

This place could belong to a large community, as indicated by the scale of the burials. Probably, the community was connected with the nearby Roman settlement. Among the finds are ceramic and glass vessels, iron and bronze objects, as well as Roman coins. They reflect the social status of the buried.

The main find was a two-wheeled Roman chariot known as a biga. She was found with the remains of a horse.

This is the first such find in this region.
