US presidential candidates Donald Trump and Kamala Harris were invited to give an interview to the program "60 Minutes" on the CBS News channel. However, the Republican refused to do so.
This is reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to Axios, informs UAINFO.org.
It is important that there was a debate between Harris and Trump on September 10, 2024. After that, the US vice president repeatedly offered the former president another round, to which he refused. With Trump saying it's "too late" for another debate, the CBS News show could be the last chance for both candidates to reach a mass audience in the 29 days before Election Day.
The channel claims that Trump agreed, but later refused the interview. In a comment to Axios, Stephen Chung, director of communications for the Trump campaign, explained the situation.
“There was discussion, but nothing was planned or fixed. They insisted on interrupting the interview to check the facts," he said.
Meanwhile, US Vice President Kamala Harris has agreed and will take part in the show, which will air on October 7. At the same time, the invitation to Trump remains in effect.
“This year, the Harris and Trump campaigns agreed to appear on 60 Minutes. Vice President Harris will speak with correspondent Bill Whitaker. After initially agreeing to an interview with Scott Pelley, former President Trump's campaign decided not to participate. Pelley will talk about it Monday night,” the 60 Minutes representative added.
