The New York Police Department will increase patrols starting Monday, October 7
The FBI and the Department of Homeland Security have noted that Jewish, Muslim or Arab institutions are "attractive targets for attacks."
The first anniversary of a deadly terrorist attack in Israel and tensions in the Middle East can become motives for acts of violence by extremists. The NYPD will increase patrols starting Monday, October 7 and for the next two weeks. This is reported by CNN with reference to a source in law enforcement agencies
In a joint statement Friday, the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security said Jewish, Muslim or Arab institutions, including synagogues, mosques/Islamic centers and community centers, as well as large public gatherings, are attractive targets for violent attacks or false threats by various subjects, including extremists and persons who commit hate crimes.
The agencies assessed that foreign terrorist organizations are likely to continue to "exploit narratives" surrounding hostilities involving Israel, Hamas, Hezbollah and Iran to incite lone terrorists to commit violence in the United States.
So-called "lone wolves", which are not formally part of terrorist groups, are a particularly serious problem for law enforcement agencies.
