A new law "On mandatory civil liability insurance of vehicle owners" came into force in Ukraine. As reported by SUV News with reference to the publication "Law and Business", several important changes are introduced for drivers that every motorist needs to know.
First, the new law increases the protection of people injured in road accidents. The maximum amounts of insurance payments will gradually increase and should increase to European standards.
Secondly, there will no longer be state control over the prices of "autocivilian" insurance. Now each insurance company will set its own prices for customers. At the same time, various factors will be taken into account, such as insurance history, participation in road accidents or the absence of losses in the past.
A new system of direct settlement is being introduced, which will allow victims of road accidents to apply for compensation to their insurance company, and not to the insurer of the person responsible for the accident.
The method of calculating the insurance payment is also changing. Now, for cars up to 5 years old, the payment will be determined without taking into account wear and tear. For older machines, the payment will be calculated taking into account the cost of similar spare parts.
The insurance company must offer the victim three service station options within a radius of 150 km from his home. If the victim does not agree to these conditions, the money will be paid to the account.
In addition, the new law prohibits the use of a franchise in compulsory insurance contracts. This means that drivers will not have to pay part of the costs themselves in case of an insured event.
The law also allows discounts for certain categories of people, for example, for combatants injured during the Revolution of Dignity or the Chernobyl disaster, as well as for pensioners and people with group I disabilities.
In addition, the limit of insurance compensation according to the Europrotocol is canceled, but the National Bank may re-introduce such restrictions in the future.
