The leaders of China and North Korea have promised to strengthen cooperation between the two countries, which are celebrating the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. This was reported by Reuters, referring to Pyongyang's statement.

Emphasizing the "great importance" of relations between China and the DPRK, Xi Jinping assured that Beijing is ready to "write a new chapter" in relations with its neighbor. In turn, Kim Jong-un promised to "resolutely strive" for the development of cooperation with China, "as required by the new era."

What exactly is meant by the "new era" is not specified. However, Reuters notes that North Korea has begun a truly fundamental review of its attitude toward South Korea. And this causes certain concerns.

North Korea is expected to revise its constitution to remove the declared goal of peaceful unification with South Korea. It is also planned to redefine the status of the border between the two Koreas. On Monday, Pyongyang will convene a parliamentary session to discuss these amendments.

According to experts, all this can lead to an escalation of tensions on the peninsula. After all, back in January, Kim Jong Un called for a change in the constitution so that South Korea is considered a "main enemy" and that North Korea should plan to "occupy, subjugate and return" South Korea in the event of war.
