Polish President Andrzej Duda will appear in court. The case is related to the statement of the head of state regarding the audience of Agnieszka Holland's film "The Green Border".
According to the Center for Monitoring Racist and Xenophobic Behavior, the president "insulted the citizens of his own country", informs UAINFO.org with reference to Fakt.
The film, in particular, tells the story of refugees from the Middle East and Africa who are trying to get to the European Union through the border of Belarus and Poland. The director showed how Belarusian propaganda lures migrants to the border for an allegedly easy transition to the EU.
"The fact that Mrs. Holland shows Polish officials in this way doing their job for Polish society, for the safety of all of us, for the safety of Poland, I'm not surprised that the Border Guard officers who watched this film used the slogan "Only pigs sit in the cinema," said Duda.
According to lawyer Piotr Milik, the first court session in this case will take place on October 24, 2025, when Duda will no longer be the president of Poland. At the same time, hearings will be held remotely:
"So each of you will have the opportunity to join them, sitting in front of your own computer screen."
Duda himself stated that "this is not his statement, but he only quoted it."
"The decision in such a case can be an apology or compensation, if the court recognizes the violation of personal rights specified in the Civil Code," the lawyer explained, adding that this is the first such case in the history of Poland against the country's president.
