For Lance Wooton, everything changed five years ago - then he decided to become a pirate for Halloween and grow a beard to complete the image. Since then, he grew it to his waist, which suddenly opened a completely different world to him. About what happened in Lance's life after this decision - in our article.
Now Lance Wooton is 32 years old, he works as an IT supervisor in Kentucky and, in parallel, wins various awards in the world beard community. It all started without any ambitions — simply for the sake of an experiment. Then in October 2014, a friend of Lance's who works at a barbershop offered to try some beard care products for free and if he liked them, to promote them. As Lance later admitted, until that moment he had no idea there were any special shampoos and oils for beards.
Anyway, Lance talked about his experience at the barbershop on his social media, which got him noticed in the beard community and invited to the best beard competition. Until recently, Lance had no idea that such a community existed at all, and here he suddenly found excellent friends among it. And having found such powerful support, Lance decided to continue growing a beard. Now it reaches 77 centimeters in him.
And in the last five years, just because of his decision to grow a beard, Lance has already participated in more than 30 competitions and won second place in the "Natural Beard" category in his native USA and fourth place in the world competition in the same category. What's more, Lance has been spotted by sponsors and is supplying him with the very beard care products he didn't know about until recently. And last year he starred in Above Suspicion, starring Emilia Clarke, which is currently in post-production.
"Sometimes they tell me it's silly and funny, but I don't pay attention. If you stop loving someone just because they now have a beard, is that love?” Lance says. The guy admits that it is not easy to take care of such a big beard - it needs to be regularly washed, combed, moisturized with oils, and how much trouble it brings on a windy day or while swimming... And this is not to mention the annoying attention from people who ask stupid questions and tend to touch the beard.
