The authorities of the republic are determined to interact with the association as an observer country, without full membership
Myanmar was interested in participating in the BRICS summit in Kazan, but has not yet received an official invitation.
The authorities of Myanmar are interested in their country receiving observer status in BRICS, said the Minister of Information of the Republic Maun Maun On. This was reported by Russian media on Sunday, September 15.
"We are determined to interact with the association as an observer country, without full membership. In the future, we have the desire to submit an application for full membership in the association. In our region, Southeast Asia, many have already applied," the minister said.
According to him, Myanmar was interested in participating in the BRICS summit in Kazan, but has not yet received an official invitation.
At the beginning of September, Turkey officially submitted an application to join the BRICS, and Azerbaijan and Thailand also declared their desire to join the bloc.
BRICS was founded in 2006 and then included Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, after which it is named after the first letters. In January 2024, Egypt, Iran, Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Ethiopia joined the organization. At the end of July, Malaysia submitted an application to join the organization.
