Cotton blankets need cleaning every year. It is best to do it in the summer.
You can't wash them, so if you can't take them to a dry cleaner, you can do it yourself. It is easier to make good efforts and be patient, writes Gazeta.ua.
How to clean so as not to spoil the blanket
Do not soak, so that the filler does not go astray. Therefore, washing this thing will more likely resemble cleaning.
Pour warm water into the basin. Take household soap or washing powder, a stain remover, a foam sponge and a brush of medium hardness.
First, get rid of dust and small debris that may have remained on the surface of the blanket. To do this, you need to carefully beat the blanket.
Next, you need to spread the blanket on a horizontal surface, for example, on a clean floor. Dissolve washing powder or soap shavings in warm water, mix well. At the same time, it is worth checking that the detergent dissolves well and that there are no undissolved residues of powder or soap in the water. After all, it will be difficult to wash such residues from the blanket later.
First, clean the visible stains. Dip a brush or sponge in the solution and walk over the surface of the blanket. If some stains are persistent and the soapy solution cannot remove them, use a stain remover. Before doing so, test how it affects the quilt material on a small piece of fabric. Next, apply the product using a cotton pad.
When you finish cleaning, rinse the surface of the blanket with clean water. To do this, you need to fill a basin with clean water. Next, wet the surface of the blanket with a sponge. You will need to repeat this until you are sure that there is no detergent left on the surface of the fabric.
At the same time, you should not wring out the blanket, because there is a risk that more moisture will get inside and the filler will clump.
