The highest probability of return of Ukrainians from abroad is among highly qualified specialists.
This was reported by the head of the Institute of Demography and Social Research, Ella Libanova, in an interview with NV.
The demographer believes that the first to return are those citizens who have their own business, housing and higher earnings in Ukraine.
Those who lost their jobs or whose homes were destroyed have less chance of returning. In her opinion, the "honeymoon" with European life has already ended for many Ukrainians.
Libanova explained that many Ukrainians, while abroad, faced difficulties due to the fact that schools, medical services or even products in stores are different from what they are used to. Libanova drew special attention to the problem of non-recognition of qualifications and diplomas of Ukrainians abroad.
"Here I am a candidate of sciences, an associate professor, a doctor, everyone respects me, and there at best I am a nurse" - said the expert.
In an earlier interview with Glavcom, Libanova said that Ukraine will no longer have 50 million citizens, so the country must rebuild the structure of the economy so that it can get by with a smaller population. The expert noted that the population density is important for the demography of the country. Before the full-scale war in Ukraine, there were 45 people per square kilometer, which is not enough compared to Europe. Therefore, according to Libanova, the country should rebuild its economic structure.
Libanova notes that currently the population density in Ukraine is quite different. She predicts that in the post-war period there will be areas where there will be less than 30 people per square kilometer.
