The Polish police announced the start of a large-scale operation to improve road safety. Law enforcement officers are actively implementing modern technologies to monitor the situation on the roads, in particular, they use drones to monitor compliance with traffic rules.

This is reported by Khvyla, referring to the information of the Polish police and mass media.

Increased control is associated with the beginning of the school year, when the intensity of traffic increases significantly, which leads to an increase in the number of traffic accidents. According to the police, about 400 people have died on the roads of Poland this year. The statistics regarding drunken drivers are particularly alarming: since the beginning of the year, more than 60 cases of drunken driving have been detected.

It should be noted that the police actively use drones to monitor the road situation. At the legislative level, they were allowed to be used to detect traffic violations in 2019, with some changes in 2022. These devices have cameras with a 30x zoom, which allows you to capture various violations.

Special attention is paid to the control of pedestrian crossings. With the help of drones, such violations as driving without seat belts, using a phone while driving, and not following the rules at intersections are detected. Drone operators can be at a considerable distance from the observed area, transmitting information to patrols to stop trespassers.

We would like to add that the Polish authorities have increased the penalties for violating traffic rules. Currently, for overtaking before a pedestrian crossing, the driver faces a fine of up to 1500 zlotys, and for a repeat violation – up to 3000 zlotys. Using a phone at a pedestrian crossing will cost 300 zlotys, and pedestrians who cross in front of oncoming traffic will have to pay 500 zlotys. There are also separate fines for not having the necessary documents, such as a driver's license, technical license and insurance.

Not only drivers, but also pedestrians are under surveillance. Large-scale checks on the alcohol content in the blood of drivers are carried out. Special attention is paid to compliance with the rules near schools and at pedestrian crossings. The police note that traffic participants are more likely to break the rules when they cannot see police cars, so the use of drones increases the effectiveness of control.
