Russian prisoners of war in Ukraine no longer have the opportunity to make phone calls to their relatives, writes union.
Dmytro Lubinets, the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights, said this on the air of an informational marathon of TV channels.
"I will say frankly, we change some things. For example, there were many discussions about the possibility of Russian prisoners of war to call their relatives on the territory of the Russian Federation. Our position was very simple: according to the Geneva Conventions, there is a right to correspondence, not to telephone calls. As of now, we have been informed that the Russians still have the ability to write letters, but they no longer have the right to make phone callsLubinets emphasized.
He said that he passes letters from Russian prisoners of war to the Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation, Tetiana Moskalkova, and she, in turn, passes letters from Ukrainian prisoners of war.
"In my opinion, this is a new approach that allows us to at least understand where our guys are and that they are alive", Lubinets said.
