Japanese electronics giant Sharp has teamed up with technology company Foxconn to develop an electric minibus for travel called the Sharp LDK+. Sharp describes the LDK+ as an “extended living room” equipped with the latest technology. With its silver finish, square shape and rounded edges, the LDK+ could easily be mistaken for a high-tech home appliance, and that impression is only reinforced by the prominent Sharp logo on the front.
A more intriguing aspect of the concept lies behind the large sliding doors. The rear seats can be rotated 180 degrees, turning the interior into a cozy room. The side windows are equipped with liquid crystal blinds for privacy, and an artificial intelligence-enabled system automatically adjusts lighting and temperature according to passenger preferences.
The massive 65-inch display mounted behind the tailgate is ideal for watching movies or making video calls with your loved ones. The same space can be arranged as a children's play area, or as a private office for remote work thanks to a sliding table.
The concept is based on the "open electric vehicle platform" developed by the Taiwanese company Foxconn. Sharp noted that the car's battery serves as a backup power source for the home during emergency situations.
The concept will be officially presented at the Sharp Tech-Day 24 exhibition, which will be held in Tokyo on September 17-18. The company has not disclosed any plans to put the concept into production.
