For the first time, there was talk of many changes awaiting Ukrainian drivers in 2022. It was then that the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine registered a draft law according to which the maximum and minimum age for drivers should be changed. All for the sake of fulfilling the Agreement between Ukraine and the European Union. However, more than two years have passed, and the project has still not been approved. People's deputies cannot finally adopt it, because they disagree on many controversial issues, GSMinfo informs.
The project will be approved in the near future
Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Bohdan Drapyaty reports that this project will be approved sooner or later. He notes that the People's Deputies have no choice - they only have to come to a joint decision.
When the draft law is adopted, the following changes may come into effect:
- New categories of vehicles will appear: for example, there will be a moped - AM (maximum speed 45 km/h). Small motorcycles A1 and A2 with power separation. Large sports motorcycles - A, and quad bikes B1.
- The validity period of the driver's license will change. Rights will be issued for 10 years (we are talking about category B). This also means that by January 19, 2033, all drivers will need to obtain new driver's licenses.
- They also plan to normalize the minimum and maximum age for male and female drivers.
"The minimum age in Ukraine allowed to pass the exams for obtaining a driver's license for the right to drive cars is 18 years. The categories of mopeds and motorcycles can be opened from the age of 16, and other categories from the age of 21," experts add.
How this age will be changed, and whether it will be radically changed, is currently unknown.
