On the eighth of September, we celebrate the holiday of the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos, or in the people the "Second Most Pure". On this day, according to the folk calendar, autumn comes. The Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary is one of the 12 most important Christian holidays.

The Holy Mother of God was the most revered in our region. Therefore, during the times of communist atheism, non-human atheists destroyed the figures of the Mother of God the most.
Atheists destroyed not only figures of the Mother of God, but also churches named after her. So residents of the village Antonivtsi, who were deported by Soviet authorities in Shumshchyna and liquidated the village council in 1952, and the wooden church of the Nativity of the Holy Virgin, which was built in 1795 instead of an even older one, was treacherously burned down in 1978.
In the village Green in Buchachchyna is the Church of the Nativity of the Holy Virgin (1867, wooden, burned; 1886, stone, collapsed in the 1980s, restored in 1990). During the German-Soviet war, the church in Vyshnivychik, Terebovlyan Oblast, was slightly damaged, but the Soviet authorities issued a decision to dismantle the church and use that stone to build a new one in the village. Thus, in Ulashkivtsi in Chortkiv region there is a church of the Nativity of the Mother of God (1866; the monastery church in the Ulashkiv monastery has had the status of a Papal basilica since 2008 - spiritually related to the Papal Basilica of St. Mary the Greater in Rome. Two miraculous icons are kept here: the Mother of God and Predecessors of John the Baptist, as well as his relics, part of the Honest and Life-giving Cross of the Lord). The monastery and the parish have the status of a holiday destination. There is a monastery of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin in Ternopil (1994, Franciscans of the Eastern Rite).
In 1724, a wooden church of St. Archangel Michael, consecrated in 1727. The Vasiliyana fathers moved the icon of the Holy Mother of God to the temple, which is still here today and is considered miraculous. It is in her honor that every year in Vovkivtsi there is a holiday of the Compassion of the Most Holy Theotokos on the tenth Friday, approved in Rome. Today, a brick church of the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos was built on the place of the wooden temple. The holiday in Vovkivtsi has been approved as a diocesan one, here every year on the Christmas of the Mother of God there are holidays to the Vovkivtsi miracle-working icon of the Most Holy Theotokos.
Nowadays, the churches in the village are among the oldest. The temple was built in Sosniv in the Terebovlian region back in 1628, in the village of Suraj in Shumshchyna, the church was built in 1730, in Lanovechchyna: Borshchivka - 1753, Vanzhulov - 1750.
"Travelers" and temples with healing springs
In Smykyvtsi there is a church of the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos (1894, stone; completed in 1915) with a chapel of the same name near the spring - a hydrological landmark of local importance (2004). In the village of Chornokinetska Volya, in the Chortkiv region, the old wooden church was moved from the town of Skala-Podilska in 1763, and the church was completed in 1928. In 2004, a new stone temple was built and consecrated.

In the village Sinkiv was a wooden church of the Nativity of the Holy Virgin (the so-called "Peasant"; 18th century, restored in 1882; destroyed by the communists in the 1970s; according to legend, it was brought by water during the Dniester flood). Today, the village has a Church of the Transfer of the Relics of St. Nicholas (1883, stone).

Traditions and customs
In Ukrainian folk traditions, the holiday of the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos belongs to women's holidays, a woman is honored as a mother, the progenitor of the family and the keeper of the hearth. Women who do not have children prepared dinner and invited the poor - "to pray to the Mother of God for their children." It is said that the prayers of expectant mothers to the Holy Mother of God for the health and happiness of the children they are waiting for have special power on this day.
Girls who wanted to get married, on the Day of the Most Holy Day, they made fortune-telling on the chosen one and believed in a sign: if you wash yourself before dawn, you will get married by the end of the year. And that with whom you will kiss on this day - you will live with that for the rest of your life. People tried to get rid of their old clothes on the Second Purification Day, believing that a new period in life begins after this holiday.
The deadline for the preparation of the magic potion also falls on the Second Pure Day. It was believed that the herbs gathered between the First and Second Pure Ones had the special property of attracting a boy to a girl (a man to a woman) and vice versa.
On the day of the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos, everyone should have pure thoughts. Do not raise your voice at loved ones - it is a sin. It is also impossible to wish another person evil or think badly of someone.
