Jake Sullivan, US President's National Security Adviser, said that Ukraine should be a leader in ending the war with Russia. The peace plan cannot be imposed on the country from outside.
This was reported by Politico.
According to the US official, any establishment initiative that conflicts with sovereignty and territorial integrity will not be fair and sustainable.
"I believe that any peace plan that seeks to essentially impose peace on the people of Ukraine, which is contrary to the basic principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity, democracy and freedom, is not fair and sustainable," Sullivan said.
As the publication writes, during the full-scale invasion of Russian troops into Ukraine, various initiatives were put forward to end the war in Ukraine, including proposals from China, Brazil and the "peacekeeping missions" of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban. They provide for the cessation of fire and the freezing of war.
Politico noted that only Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi's "peace formula" provides for the return of all territories captured by Russia.
