Ukrainian scouts destroyed an enemy Su-30SM fighter jet in the Black Sea. It was managed to be shot down with the help of a portable anti-aircraft missile complex (MANPAD).
This was reported in the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
According to the military, the downed plane belonged to the 43rd separate naval aviation regiment of the Russian Air Force, which is based at the airfield in the city of Saki, in the temporarily occupied Crimea.
Contact with the fighter was lost on September 11, 2024 at approximately 5:00 AM. About three hours later, Russian forces began a search and rescue operation, involving an An-26 aircraft, as well as Mi-8 and Ka-27 helicopters.
In the middle of the day, the Russian military found traces of aviation fuel, and later - the wreckage of a downed Su-70SM, at a distance of 30 km northwest of Cape Tarkhankut. The cost of this fighter is estimated at approximately 50 million dollars.
