The State Scientific and Technical Center for Nuclear and Radiation Safety reported that the hot weather and lack of rain led to the spread of fires in the exclusion zone and the zone of unconditional (mandatory) evacuation.
According to operational information of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in the Kyiv region, burning is observed in the Chernobyl zone on an area of approximately 550 hectares.
In this regard, specialists of the Center for Nuclear and Radiation Safety carried out a predictive assessment of air mass movement trajectories and modeling of atmospheric dispersion.
"According to the meteorological forecast for 06.09.2024/16/00, subject to the continuation of burning in the cells indicated on the NASA FIRMS global map of forest fires, as of 06:3 p.m. on September XNUMX, during the next XNUMX days, air masses will pass through the north of Zhytomyr region and along the northern borders of Ukraine with Belarus with further movement on the territory of southern Belarus. Precipitation is not expected along the trajectories," the center said.
It is noted that, based on the results of modeling, exceeding the permissible concentrations of Cs-137 and Sr-90 in the air outside the exclusion zone and the zone of unconditional (mandatory) resettlement for the population is not expected.
