The German machine received additional dynamic protection modules that cover the most vulnerable places, as well as screens to protect against FPV drones.
For the first time, Ukraine demonstrated modernized Leopard 1A5V tanks, which were part of the 5th separate tank brigade. Originally created during the Cold War era, these vehicles have undergone major improvements aimed at increasing their combat effectiveness and survivability on the modern battlefield. On September 16, the Operational Command "West" announced this on Facebook.
Leopard 1A5V tanks have been reinforced with additional armor and protective shields to counter the threat of enemy drones, especially FPV-type drones, which are actively used by Russian forces. To increase the level of protection, blocks of dynamic protection (ERA) are used, which cover the frontal projection, the tower and the sides of the tank.
Special attention was paid to vulnerable places, such as the connection of the tower with the body, which received additional protection modules.
One of the key features was the installation of mesh screens designed to reduce the machine's vulnerability to drone attacks, which increases the chances of crew survival in combat conditions.
At the same time, the Leopard 1A5V retained its outstanding characteristics: a maximum speed of up to 70 km/h and the accuracy of fire at a distance of up to 4 kilometers.
