BMW has started work on the new generation X5 crossover, the world premiere of which is scheduled for 2026. Prototypes of the updated bestseller of the Bavarian brand recently went to the first test trials, during which the car was captured in photos.
As can be seen from the images published by Autocarindia journalists, the design of the new X5 will be inspired by the Neue Klasse style. The front part of the car will get X-shaped daytime running lights with narrow headlights, as well as a new bumper with large air intakes and air vents, which will give the car a sporty look.
The X5 is also expected to get widened wheel arches and the rear end will look like the XM super crossover thanks to quad exhaust tips.
According to forecasts, the new BMW X5 will be longer, wider and heavier than its predecessor. The prototype is internally designated G65, while the sporty version (M model) is G95.
Insiders report that the model will be available with a variety of powertrains, including gasoline, diesel and plug-in hybrids. The photos taken in Europe appear to show the M60e Drive version with a twin-turbocharged 3-liter 6-cylinder gasoline engine, an electric motor, and a lithium-ion battery.
The combined output of this setup can reach 570 horsepower, and an 8-speed automatic transmission and Drive AWD will be standard.
The world debut of the new BMW X5 is expected in 2026, and sales will begin in early 2027.
