We can make simple changes to our lifestyle that will not only improve our physical and mental health, but can also help us live longer, says an expert.
In an interview, medical columnist Navin Khosla told about what "simple lifestyle changes" can prolong a person's life.
Use fresh vegetable products. According to Khosla, a diet rich in ultra-processed foods is a pathway to various health problems. Swapping long-life packaged foods for fresh, plant-based foods can help increase your lifespan, an expert said.
“Foods like nuts, fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and other plant-based foods are rich in nutrients and antioxidants that the body needs. Studies have shown that some of these products can reduce the risk of developing cancer, heart disease and other diseases, and improve the quality of life," the expert noted.
Monitor the number of calories consumed. Khosla informed that the habit of controlling the caloric content of the diet helps to maintain a healthy weight, which has a positive effect on longevity, as it provides prevention of heart disease, diabetes and other life-limiting ailments.
Be physically active. The expert found that striving for 15 minutes of exercise every day can reduce the risk of heart disease, depression and diabetes, and also help you lose weight, which in turn prevents premature death.
"Studies have shown that just 15 minutes of exercise a day can add three years to your life," said Naveen Khosla.
Limit alcohol consumption. Scientists have found that cutting back on drinking can reduce the risk of premature death by about 18 percent, the medical reviewer shared.
Maintain a consistent sleep pattern. The expert advised to go to bed and wake up at the same time in the evening and in the morning, and also not to sleep too long - sleeping more than nine hours can reduce the life expectancy by about 38 percent.
