North Korea wants to dramatically increase its nuclear potential
The North Korean dictator has stated the potential threats that require the DPRK to continuously expand its defense capabilities and enhance its pre-emptive strike capability.
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has ordered an increase in the number of uranium enrichment centrifuges to build up his nuclear arsenal "geometrically". He gave this order during a visit to the Institute of Nuclear Weapons and the production base of weapons-grade nuclear materials, the state news agency KCNA reported.
"Recently, the nuclear threats by the American imperialists and their satellite forces against our republic are becoming more overt and cross the red line," Kim stressed.
Therefore, according to him, potential threats require the DPRK to "continually expand and strengthen its defense capabilities and strengthen its ability to strike pre-emptively."
Kim Jong-un also visited the control room of the uranium enrichment facility to familiarize himself with the operation of its production lines, and observed a test of the new 600mm rocket salvo fire system.
According to KCNA, Kim said he "felt strong" when he saw the workplace during the visit.
The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) did not specify the exact location or date of the inspection, but said Kim's visit was part of plans to strengthen the country's nuclear deterrent.
South Korean and US intelligence agencies believe North Korea operates uranium enrichment facilities at the Kangsong nuclear complex near Pyongyang and at the Yongbyon nuclear site.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine strongly condemned the launch of ballistic missiles by North Korea on September 12, calling Pyongyang's actions "irresponsible".
