Kazakhstan initially offered its services as a possible mediator
Currently, Astana takes a position of "discreet neutrality" and maintains relations with both Russia and Ukraine.
The authorities of Kazakhstan are ready to act as a mediator or provide a platform for peace talks between Moscow and Kyiv. This was stated by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic Roman Vasylenko in an interview with Deutsche Welle.
This is how the representative of the country answered the question about the position of Kazakhstan regarding the war between Russia and Ukraine.
"Kazakhstan has from the very beginning offered its services as a possible mediator or venue for negotiations between the two parties. This position has not changed," said Vasylenko.
The diplomat explained that Astana takes a position of "discreet neutrality" and maintains relations with both Russia and Ukraine.
"We expect that our services will be needed at some point, that's why we take such a discreet position," he explained, adding that the authorities of Kazakhstan respect the UN charter and the territorial integrity of the state.
