Jeep released its first electric car last year, when the small crossover Avenger appeared in Europe. Electric Wagoneer S for the US was first shown in early 2024, but deliveries to customers have not yet begun.
It was planned to go on the market this fall, but now Jeep suggests that the date may be moved. The company wants to make sure the Wagoneer S meets the requirements. Jeep CEO Antonio Filosa stated, "No launch unless the quality is perfect." The zero-emissions SUV will be assembled at a plant in Toluca, Mexico, where "quality goes up." The head of the company is close to achieving "perfect quality", but "close to not good enough".
Jeep doesn't want to rush the model out, only to hold back on a promise to deliver the Wagoneer S to dealers this fall: "Timing is important, but even more important is the perfect fit for consumers who will want to buy this car."
Quality has become a real issue for Jeep's parent company, Stellantis, of late. In July, the head of the auto conglomerate, Carlos Tavares, admitted that some problems needed to be solved at the plants in the United States. He pointed to Sterling Heights, Michigan, where the Ram 1500 is made and where a lot of pickups need repairs right off the assembly line.
The electric Wagoneer S Launch Edition starts at $72. Jeep is promoting the Wagoneer S as its first global electric SUV.
