Although its cost is slightly higher than ordinary foam sponges, this miracle of technology is quite affordable.
Melamine sponge consists of melamine resin. It is soft and delicate to the touch, although its structure remains crystalline. Thanks to these properties, the sponge acquires abrasive qualities similar to sandpaper. However, it gently cleans surfaces without leaving marks or scratches. With its help, you can remove a wide variety of dirt, up to marker marks on the wallpaper. And you won't need any additional detergents other than warm water.
In addition, with a melamine sponge, you can easily wash limescale in the bath, clean smoky dishes - pots and pans, clean stains on furniture, and shine nickel-plated surfaces so that they shine like new. In general, this is an all-purpose tool that is now sold in many hardware stores. And, let's repeat, the price is quite acceptable.
How to use a sponge? It is simple and does not require special skills. However, before you start rubbing something, remember a few simple rules.
Firstly, the sponge cannot be twisted - it will quickly collapse. Instead, squeeze the sponge between your palms so that the product does not deform and the excess water drains away.
Second, use gloves when working with a melamine sponge. Although melamine itself is mildly toxic and no more harmful than table salt, it can ruin your manicure.
Third, if you are wiping the stain, do not rub the dirt all over the surface of the sponge, because it will rub off quickly. It is best to hold the sponge like a large eraser and work only with its tip. So the effect will be better, and the sponge will last longer.
Fourth, if you have been scrubbing dishes, rinse the pot or pan thoroughly with water after using the sponge. This is important because melamine foam is formed during friction. If it is not washed off, it will settle on the surface, and there is a risk that some of it will get into the food. Melamine itself is safe and is removed from the body through the excretory system, however, passing through the kidneys, a large part of this substance can be deposited in the organ, which can subsequently lead to the formation of stones. So be careful.
For the same reason, it is not recommended to wash the body with a melamine sponge - it makes little sense. Washing difficult stains from the skin, such as marker marks or tar, is an option, but fruits and vegetables should not be cleaned with this sponge.
Fifth, the sponge can be used both dry and wet. You can add a few drops of any detergent except those containing chlorine to increase effectiveness. Chlorine and melamine are not "friends" - when they interact, toxins are released, and the sponge itself becomes unusable.
Sixth, the cleaner the sponge, the better it washes, so it must be washed constantly to extend its service life.
Seventh, after the sponge has become unusable, it does not need special disposal - just throw it in the trash.
