Police in Irvine, California spent $150 on a new Tesla Cybertruck. Such a purchase caused great controversy and a series of statements due to alleged extravagance.

According to Forbes, the department shelled out $99 for the Cyberbeast and another $990 to get it in Foundation Series guise. The city later paid a few thousand more to convert the car into a police pickup.

To make matters worse, the pickup truck is being used for promotional purposes - to promote their anti-drug education program. This may be good for the Dubai police, but some US taxpayers are upset by the move.

Motorists in letters to the police noted that Rivian has a design and engineering base in Irvine, so buying a Cybertruck is a kind of slap in the face. It's hard to disagree, especially considering the Rivian R1T will be cheaper, with the electric pickup starting at $69.

Also, one cannot fail to mention the Ford F-150 Lightning and the Chevrolet Silverado EV, the prices of which start at $62. Even the GMC Hummer EV pickup would be cheaper than the Cybertruck, as it starts at $995.
