Kamala Harris will choose between Josh Shapiro and Tim Waltz
Harris is weighing the decision with her husband Doug Emhoff, son-in-law Tony West and aides, writes Reuters.
US Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris has narrowed the field of vice presidential candidates to two finalists. The key candidates were Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro and Minnesota Governor Tim Waltz. This was reported by Reuters with reference to three sources familiar with the matter.
She will announce her choice by Tuesday, ahead of her first planned public appearance with her running mate, which will take place this evening at Temple University in Philadelphia. He will start a five-day tour in seven cities of the states.
Choosing a running mate is one of the most important decisions of Harris' political career as she rushes to put together a campaign to challenge Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump and his running mate, Sen. JD Vance.
Media reports that on Tuesday, August 6, Vance will also make a campaign stop in South Philadelphia.
According to sources, Harris is weighing the decision with her husband Doug Emhoff, son-in-law Tony West and a small circle of aides and advisers.
Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, 51, is a rising star of the party with high approval ratings in his state. Its 19 electoral votes make the state critical to victory for both Harris and Trump.
The governor of Minnesota, 60-year-old Tim Waltz, is a former soldier of the US National Guard and a former teacher. He has raised his profile in recent weeks as an effective defender of Harris. He called Trump and Vance "weird," a viral catchphrase picked up by the Harris campaign.
In addition to Shapiro and Waltz, the contenders included U.S. Sen. Mark Kelly of Arizona, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear and Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker.
