Video of the day: Audi A6 e-tron electric car uses aerodynamic tricks to increase range

In a new video, Audi showed how it works to improve the aerodynamics of its electric cars and how it tests promising cars in a wind tunnel.

It is noteworthy that the new A6 e-tron has an impressive drag coefficient of only 0,24. That's pretty good, though it's not a front-runner at this stage, with the Tesla Model S, Hyundai Ioniq 6, and Lucid Air doing better.

It is noted that research into the aerodynamics of Audi cars began back in the 1930s. Yes, the 1937 Auto Union Type C sports car used a supercharged V16 engine. Streamlined body and powerful engine allowed it to move at a speed of more than 400 km per hour.

As for the new electric sedan A6 e-tron, the novelty uses everything that Audi has learned over the years. For example, small slits in the front bumper allow the electric car to create a uniform air curtain, which reduces the resistance of the front wheels. The side-view cameras also add a bit of a streamlined feel and in themselves add seven kilometers of range compared to standard mirrors.

The undercarriage is completely closed from the bottom to avoid additional unnecessary resistance. Some areas direct air to cool the battery, and in the rear there is an active spoiler that reduces turbulence in the rear of the car. All this helps the car reach a range of 720 km according to the WLTP cycle.
