Watermelon prices in Ukraine have already dropped by a third since the beginning of this week.
This is reported by project analysts east fruit, transmits Ukrinform.
According to project monitoring data, watermelon prices on the domestic market have dropped to UAH 3-8/kg ($0,07-0,19/kg), which is 30% cheaper on average than at the end of the last working week.
Manufacturers believe that the negative price dynamics is accompanied by a sharp increase in the supply of these melons on the market.
According to farmers, the situation is further complicated by the fact that the bulk of the supply is large-caliber products, the demand for which is rather weak. As a result of extremely low rates of retail sales, wholesale companies and retail chains are forced to reduce watermelon purchases.
It is worth noting that today watermelon in Ukraine already costs on average 60% cheaper than in the same period last year.
Industry experts do not predict a noticeable improvement in the situation on the market, because only owners of high-quality watermelons will be able to raise prices, and the supply of such products on the market is quite limited.
