As of the end of July 2024, 430 children were taken from Ukrainians abroad. 65 of these children have already been returned.
This is reported by Varta1 with reference to the National Social Service of Ukraine.
Germany (122 children), Poland (39 children), Norway and Spain (20 children each) are among the countries where such situations of child abduction have occurred.
"And there are different reasons here. It may be that our parents do not know the legislation of the country of residence, a different approach, let's say, to raising children in Ukraine and abroad. For example, when a child is loudly scolded on the street, when the child himself, for example, under the age of ten, is sent to school, which in principle is common in Ukraine, but it is prohibited in many European countries. But there are also objective reasons when parents have health problems, that is, including mental disorders, then, of course, in order to ensure the safety of children, they are removed, placed in local family forms or other institutions that are in specific country. And our task is to find those relatives or legal representatives who are ready to go, pick up the child and take care of it in the future," said Vasyl Lutsyk, head of the National Social Service of Ukraine.
