The US Secretary of State called on Venezuelan parties to start negotiations on a peaceful transfer of power, promising them support.

The United States considers the winner of the presidential elections in Venezuela, the candidate from the united opposition, Edmundo González, and not the current president, Nicolás Maduro. This was stated by US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, the press service of the State Department reports.
"Unfortunately, the processing of the votes and the announcement of the results by the Maduro-controlled National Electoral Council (CNE) were deeply flawed, leading to announced results that do not reflect the will of the Venezuelan people," he said.

The National Electoral Council of Venezuela, despite calls from the opposition and many foreign countries, has not yet published the detailed results of the July 28 election.

"Meanwhile, the democratic opposition has published more than 80% of the reports received directly from polling stations across Venezuela. These records show that Edmundo González Urrutia won the majority of the vote in this election, winning by an insurmountable margin,” Blinken said.

The US Secretary of State added that the testimony of foreign observers and the data of exit polls speak of Gonzalez's victory.

At the same time, Blinken did not directly name González the president of Venezuela, but congratulated him on a successful campaign and called on Venezuelan parties to start negotiations on the peaceful transfer of power, promising them support from the United States and its allies. Recall that on July 29, Maduro was declared the winner of the election with 51% of the vote compared to 44% of oppositionist Edmundo Gonzalez.

Opposition parties claim that their candidate won 70% of the vote. Leaders of Latin American countries also doubt the integrity of Maduro's victory. After the announcement of the results of the presidential elections, mass protests began in the country.
