Iran may abandon its intention to attack Israel
The United States has told Tehran through intermediaries that Iran should reconsider its plans if the explosion was not directed against Iranian citizens and did not cause the death of others. Iran is likely to reconsider the possibility of a large-scale attack on Israel, US officials said. This was written by Politico on Thursday, August 8. The United States, using diplomatic channels and the support of its allies in the Middle East, could dissuade Iran from a large-scale missile attack on Israel after the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniya.
US officials have warned Iran that a strike against Israel will only increase tensions and could lead to a direct confrontation between the countries.
The US, through intermediaries, informed Tehran that Iran should reconsider its plans if the explosion was not directed against Iranian citizens and did not cause the death of others.
Asked by reporters Wednesday if the U.S. believed Iran had changed its mind, National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said he wouldn't talk about specific intelligence estimates, but that the Biden administration "doesn't want to see an escalation."
"If it is, my God, we will be ready to defend Israel and defend ourselves as we should," he said.
