Recently, drivers are increasingly choosing cars with automatic transmissions. However, the automatic transmission is more complicated and less durable than the good old "mechanics". At the same time, there are "automatics" that can fail after 60-000 km of mileage, while other automatic transmissions can easily overcome 80 km without changing oil and maintenance.
Motor Media Review has listed five very problematic automatic transmissions, as well as cars that are equipped with such transmissions.
AL4 (DP0) - a joint development of three French car manufacturers - is included in almost every list of "most reliable automatic transmissions". It was installed on the entire budget model range of Renault, including Logan, Duster, Sandero, Fluence, as well as Citroen and Peugeot compact vans. Ailments: The main solenoid failed quickly due to overheating, the shaft bushings had a short life, and the electronic components were short-lived. Most of these automatic transmissions needed constant repair after a mileage of 80 km.
6T30 – the transmission developed by General Motors for compact front-wheel drive passenger cars also proved to be weak: it was designed for a low torque of up to 200 Nm and could not withstand strong peak loads. Chevrolet Cruze, Aveo, Cobalt, Orlando, as well as Opel Astra, Mokka, Zafira and Insignia models suffered from burning clutches and torque converter defects. The first problems often started before 40-60 km. mileage
Even Japanese Aisin-Warner TF-80SC, which was used on Volvo and Opel models, had problems. The fact is that this "machine" was considered unmaintained, due to which the lubricant gradually lost its properties. In addition, the efficiency of the heat exchanger was insufficient. It is not surprising that the first problems in many such cars appeared before 100 km.
Jatco JR507E is a fairly old Japanese five-speed "automatic" that was installed on Nissan Pathfinder and Patrol until 2016, as well as on Infiniti models until 2010. Subsequently, the box was sold for Hyundai and Kia brands under the designations JR507A, RE5R05A, A5SR1, and in a modified form - A5SR2. Very sensitive electronics and increased intolerance of aggressive driving and off-roading led to overheating and breakdown of the automatic transmission.
ZF6HP26/28 – this unit was used until 2014 in all popular models of BMW, Audi Q5, as well as Range Rover and Jaguar. It is still used in cars of other brands, for example, in the Ford Ranger. This "machine" has excellent characteristics and (after modernization in 2004) is considered reliable and durable. But on cars with powerful engines, it often failed due to burning clutches, problems with the torque converter, solenoid and oil pump.
