Sweden has announced the temporary closure of its embassy in Lebanon
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs instructed its employees to leave Beirut and go to Cyprus, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also plans to temporarily relocate its embassy
Sweden has announced that it is temporarily closing its embassy in Beirut over fears that the war in Gaza could escalate into a regional conflict. Before that, Sweden urged its citizens to leave Lebanon. This was announced by the head of the Swedish Foreign Ministry, Tobias Bilström, writes The Local.
"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has instructed its employees to leave Beirut and go to Cyprus, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is also planning to temporarily relocate its embassy," Bijlström said.
According to him, the embassy will remain closed during August, but the decision to suspend its work "may be extended depending on the security situation."
According to the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, about 10 Swedish citizens could visit Lebanon this summer, despite the warning about the ban on entry to this country, which has been in effect since October 2023.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine also advised Ukrainians to refrain from traveling to Israel and Lebanon against the backdrop of the deteriorating security situation in the Middle East.
