How much time to spend on cooking depends on the variety of corn and how young the ears are. Very young cobs need to be boiled for only 10-15 minutes, after the water has boiled. Old corn sometimes has to be boiled for more than an hour.
In order for the corn to remain soft and sweet, salt should be added to the pot 5 minutes before it is ready. Adding a piece of butter or half a glass of milk to boiling water will also help to soften the taste.
