Important holidays await Ukrainians in August, both church and state. It is in August that Ukraine celebrates the anniversary of its independence. According to folk traditions, August is the month of the harvest, there are many folk holidays honoring the land, fruits and labor. Also in August is the feast of the First Immaculate Conception, which symbolically ends the church year.

August 1 - the feast of Macovia, Honey Savior
On August 1, the feast of Macovia or Honey Savior falls. It is on this day that beekeepers collect the first honey and carry it to the church to be consecrated on the day of the Savior.
Assumption fast begins on this day and lasts until August 14 inclusive. Before the new church calendar was adopted by Ukraine, the feast of Macovia was celebrated on August 14, and the fast lasted from August 14 to 27.
August 6 – Transfiguration of the Lord, Apple Savior
On August 6, the church celebrates the Transfiguration of the Lord - one of the 12 biggest holidays in the church year. On this day, baskets with the fruits of the harvest, honey, grain, ears of wheat and necessarily apples are brought to the church for consecration. According to popular belief, everyone should taste a piece of the consecrated apple. Previously, the holiday was celebrated on August 19.
August 9 - Saint Matthew's Day
August 9 is the feast of St. Matthew the Apostle. He was one of the 72 disciples of Jesus Christ. He was accepted among the apostles instead of Judas, already after the crucifixion of Jesus. Previously, the holiday was celebrated on August 22.
August 15 – Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary
The Feast of the Assumption of the Most Holy Theotokos, or the First Most Holy, will be celebrated now, according to the new calendar, on August 15. The holiday honors the memory of the Virgin Mary, her transition to the eternal kingdom of heaven. This is one of the 12 most important church holidays, which concludes the Assumption fast and the church year. Previously, the holiday was celebrated on August 28.
August 26 is the Day of Martyrs Adrian and Natalia
August 26 is the day of Martyrs Adrian and Natalia. Saints Adrian and Natalia were married. Hadrian died a martyr's death, tortured for his Christian faith. Spouse love has become a symbol of love and family in the Christian faith. Previously, the holiday fell on September 8.
August 29 – Beheading of the Head of John the Baptist
The beheading of the Head of John the Baptist is a day of remembrance of the death of John the Forerunner. The people respect this holiday very much and observe a strict fast. Another popular name for this day is "Holovosiky". According to the Gregorian calendar, the holiday was celebrated on September 11.
