Democratic presidential nominee Vice President Kamala Harris will interview six potential candidates for the next vice presidential role this weekend.
This was reported by the AR with reference to sources, reports Ukrinform.
As noted, the list of applicants includes the governors of Kentucky Andy Beshear, Illinois JB Pritzker, Pennsylvania Josh Shapiro and Minnesota Tim Waltz, as well as Senator Mark Kelly of Arizona and Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg.
Shapiro and Kelly were considered among the leading candidates during the "abbreviated" selection process, which initially consisted of about ten names.
Some candidates from the previous list have publicly withdrawn their candidacy, such as North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper.
The deadline to select a potential contender for the next vice-presidential post will effectively end on August 6, when Harris will begin a tour of seven key states, starting in Philadelphia.
Harris officially launched her presidential campaign on Sunday, July 21, hours after President Joe Biden announced his withdrawal from the 2024 presidential race. The president and other prominent Democrats have endorsed Harris as the Democratic presidential nominee.
President Biden's exit from the campaign comes after dozens of Democrats called for his resignation following a disastrous debate performance in late June. His behavior in confronting Trump has raised concerns about his fitness for a second term as president and whether he can defeat the Republican nominee in November.
