"This situation has all the signs of an ecological disaster," the Fish Protection Patrol.
The populations of crucian carp and goby suffer the most. As previously reported, the main reason for the death of fish is the abnormal heat in the region, which greatly reduces the oxygen content in the water. It is dangerous that fish corpses are an excellent environment for the reproduction of disease-causing bacteria. Also, some specialists associate the stench with Odessa precisely with the rotting of fish in the Khadzhibey and Tyligul estuaries.
Ihor Gerzyk, head of the scientific department of the Tyligulskyi Regional Landscape Park, said that this phenomenon is observed during the period of abnormal heat.
"Bychok is a bottom fish, and the Tyligul estuary has a depth of up to 20 meters. In strong heat, there is very little oxygen in the water column, so the fish suffocates and tries to get to the surface, where the air flow is greater."- noted the scientist.
Ihor Gerzyk also explained that similar phenomena occur not only in the Tyligul estuary, but also in other reservoirs in the Odesa region.
In particular, a few days ago, a mass death of fish was also recorded in the Khadzhibeiv estuary.
With the arrival of lower temperatures and windy weather, thanks to the agitation, the oxygen balance in the estuary is restored.
