Reports of "battles in Kurshchyna" raise many questions
Russian "militants" write that the situation in the Kursk region is "much more serious than it seemed at first glance", but other reports about the situation are contradictory.
The Russian Ministry of Defense, the acting governor of the Kursk region Oleksiy Smirnov and some propagandists have different versions of the events in the Kursk region, reports the Institute for the Study of War.
In particular, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation and the Federal Security Service of Russia announced on August 6 that Russian border troops and special service personnel repelled several raids by Ukrainian forces equipped with approximately a battalion's worth of tanks and armored vehicles; Ukrainian forces allegedly advanced on Russian positions near Nikolayevo-Darino and Oleshn, Kursk Oblast. But geolocation footage from August 6 shows damaged and abandoned armored vehicles about 7 kilometers north of the international border west of Lyubimivka.
In addition, Russian propagandists claim that the footage shows Ukrainian equipment, but ISW cannot confirm this.
Later, Smirnov and several Russian bloggers warned that fighting was ongoing in the border areas of the Suzhansky and Korenevsky districts of the Kursk region. These messages differed from the statements of the Russian Ministry of Defense and the FSB.
Russian "militants" also write that the affairs in the Kursk region are "much more serious than it seemed at first glance."
