Ukraine appealed to the White House with a request to lift restrictions on the use of American weapons at military facilities on the territory of the Russian Federation.

As reported by The Wall Street Journal with reference to its own sources, the request was made last week and is still being considered.

If the Americans agree, it would mean a major change in policy for Washington, which has long sought to reduce the risk of a military escalation between the US and Russia while supporting Ukraine.

"They really asked the US for help to strike Russia. It was not about a specific weapons system, but about additional help in striking the Russians," said US Air Force General CK Brown.

The publication recalled that the United States handed Ukraine surface-to-surface missile complexes and other ATACMS weapons systems on the condition that they would not be used to attack Russia. As noted, this condition, which Ukraine agreed to, was aimed at reducing the risk of the conflict turning into a direct confrontation between the United States and Russia.

The use of American weapons on the territory of the Russian Federation

Secretary of State Anthony Blinken emphasized that Ukraine should independently decide how to defend its freedom in the war with Russia.

Le Monde, analyzing his statement, assumed that Ukraine probably received permission to strike with Western weapons on the territory of the Russian Federation.
