The future of artificial intelligence on devices for future smartphones Samsung Galaxy, seems to be on the rise, with rumors of a continued collaboration with Google and the next version of their AI model, the Gemini Nano 2.
Currently a series Galaxy S24 uses first-generation Gemini Nano for on-device features. However, new rumors suggest that Galaxy S25, which could launch in early 2025, could be the first to feature the as-yet-unannounced Gemini Nano 2.
This news comes from a report Daum Herald Economy, a South Korean website, citing comments from Samsung Electronics' System LSI division executive Cho Cheol-min. According to a report, Cho Cheol-min recently discussed plans for the Galaxy S25 generation in a forum.
Notably, these discussions included details about Google's Gemini Nano 2, which Google itself has yet to officially unveil. The report suggests that Samsung plans to work with Google again on flagships Galaxy S25 in 2025.
The partnership will likely involve using the next version of Google's big speech model, the Gemini Nano 2, to power the S25's AI capabilities. Details on how the Gemini Nano 2 will improve on its predecessor are currently being kept under wraps. However, we can expect improvements in areas such as voice recognition and image processing.
Another area of speculation is the cost of these advanced AI features. In February, the CEO of Samsung Mobile Experience hinted that future AI features may require some sort of subscription fee. Therefore, the future artificial intelligence feature of the Gemini Nano 2 may not be completely free.
