iOS 18 is already being touted as the most ambitious update in years. It is expected to have significant changes, improvements and generative AI features. Now, in his Power On newsletter, trusted analyst Mark Gurman reveals the changes that the next-gen OS update will bring to standard iPhone apps.
Original apps on iPhone to upgrade from iOS 18
Gurman reports that the upcoming iOS 18 update will update Apple's most popular built-in apps, including Mail, Notes, Photos, and Fitness. He doesn't dive into specific details, but we can expect these apps to have new features and a redesigned design. It is worth noting that the main applications on the iPhone are not updated through the App Store. They are only updated through iOS updates.
The Notes app was recently rumored to be getting two impressive new features, including an audio recording option and the ability to perform complex math calculations. The latter will probably be possible thanks to the integration of the calculator in the Notes application. Apple Watch-exclusive topographical maps are also expected to appear in Apple Maps on iOS 18.
Gurman also adds that iOS 18 will change the home screen. This will allow users to pin the app anywhere on the screen instead of being limited to the existing grids. This will make the app design more modular and easier to update and customize. iOS 18 is scheduled to be announced at WWDC, which begins on June 10.
