Growing seedlings
Root celery is grown by seedlings. Before planting, the seeds must be treated with copper sulfate. Sow in early March. The seeds should not be buried deep in the soil, which should be well loosened before that. Put the container with seedlings in a warm place. Regularly water with warm water from a spray bottle.
Landing in the ground
After 2 months, 5 leaves should form. That is when it is necessary to start planting celery seedlings in open ground. An important condition for planting is the absence of frost, otherwise the culture may give an inedible root. It is necessary to choose a quality seedling and soak its roots in a growth stimulator. In this way, plants take root faster, the root system will be better developed, and resistance to stress increases.
Liquid seedling feeding
15 days before the date of planting seedlings, it is recommended to carry out liquid feeding. Fertilizer options:
- 5 liters of water will be combined with 15 g of nitrogen, 15 g of phosphorus and 10 g of potassium fertilizers.
- 1 liter of mullein, 10 liters of water, 10 g of superphosphate and potassium salt.
Attention! Application of top dressing is carried out in the soil, strictly avoiding contact with the leaves.
Crop rotation
Celery should not be placed on areas where fennel, carrots, and white cabbage grew last year. Ideal predecessors for celery will be: potato, tomato, garlic.
soil
A loose plot with neutral acidity is suitable for growing celery. The culture responds well to nutrients, so it is necessary to apply organic and mineral fertilizers in the fall.
Care during the growing season:
- Regular watering under the root. More abundant watering in the last month of vegetation.
- Loosening and tillage of the soil before closing the inter-row tops.
- Top dressing 3 times with an interval of 30 days with a solution of ammonium nitrate 10 g, potassium salt 10 g, superphosphate 10 g and 5 l of water.
- Regular inspection of plants to detect signs of disease. Spotted leaves should be removed immediately and the entire plant should be treated with a fungicide. The plant is prone to the following infections: leaf spot, root and stem rot, black leg.
