About the defects of the rafter system and roofing pie

1. weathered, that is, boards containing bark, cracks and rotten knots in the rafter system - they are a gross violation of construction requirements;
2. lack of special processing of boards and timber - if these materials are not treated with antiseptic, moisture-proofing agents and fire retardant, they will become available for damage by pests prone to rotting and increasing the risk of fire;
3. non-observance of the rules for laying the racks - displacement, their installation directly on the walls and the increased distance between the rafters are fraught with a deterioration in the stability of the structure;
4. lack of a vapor barrier film - high-quality installation of the roof is impossible without a vapor barrier (if there is no vapor barrier, the rafter system will quickly rot);
5. improper arrangement of the films - two-layer films are laid with the smooth side out, reinforced ones - with the front surface to the thermal insulation, and those of the foil type - with the glossy side inward.

It is not necessary to accept the work even if holes are found in the vapor barrier, there is no sealing tape at the joints, there are cold bridges in the insulation and too thin layer of thermal insulation.

Roofing installation: possible defects

The following facts that are immediately noticeable upon inspection are considered gross mistakes when performing such a process as actual roofing work:

1. lack of snow guards on the slopes - if there are no snow guards, layers of snow will slide off the roof, risking injury to people, damage to cars and garden plants located below;
2. violation of the slope of the gutter - it leads to water running down the walls, provokes fungal damage to the walls, shortens the service life of the rafters and the foundation;
3. the absence of a counter-lattice on the roof - without this element, full ventilation is impossible;
4. coating adhesion defects – high-quality components and installation of tapes and linings, ensuring the tightness of the structure, on clean surfaces will help to avoid them.

Disadvantages associated with the violation of technologies are also determined by the roofing materials used. For example, it is unacceptable to use a grinder for cutting sheets of metal tiles, ondulin cannot be stretched during installation, and when installing a slate roof, the ends of the hammered nails from the side of the crate must not be bent, otherwise the slate will crack in the summer.
