The principle of operation and features of water heating convectors

27

In many countries located in northern climatic zones, convectors are a successful competition to traditional steel and bimetallic heating radiators. However, in our country they are just beginning to be put into widespread use, which is primarily due to the low level of public awareness of such devices. In general convector for heating is able to act as a more effective alternative to a traditional water radiator. However, certain features of using such equipment are still available.

The basic principle of operation

The principle of convection (mixing) of air masses is the basis of the functioning of the data adapted. Having a relatively high density, cold air is concentrated on the floor of any room. However, passing through the heat exchanger of the convector, it heats up and rises. Thus, constant mixing of air ensures maintenance of the optimal temperature in the room.

It is worth noting that convection can be both natural and forced. In the second case, the equipment is equipped with a fan of insignificant power, which allows to increase the efficiency of its functioning.

The installation of the device is performed directly in the system of centralized or autonomous heating with the help of fittings, and the main structural element of the convector is a heat exchanger in the form of a copper pipe with aluminum fins. Passing through it, the air is heated and directed to the ceiling. Some models of devices can have not one, but two heat exchangers.

Use and advantages of convectors

Water heating convectors are universal purpose equipment. Depending on the dimensions, their installation is possible in residential, commercial, warehouse and even industrial premises. At the same time, the use of such devices provides a number of important advantages, including:

  1. savings on utility bills due to more uniform and effective heating of premises;

  2. a long operating period without the need for regular maintenance;

  3. compact dimensions and light weight, which allows installation not only on load-bearing walls, but also on internal partitions;

  4. aesthetically attractive appearance, as well as the possibility of hidden installation (not for all models).

In addition, most convectors are equipped with a power regulation system. To do this, it is enough to limit or completely block the flow of coolant (hot water) to the heat exchanger with the help of a shut-off valve.

As for the disadvantages of this equipment, they are all conditional. For example, the high cost of aggregates is offset by savings on utility bills, and the problem of uniform heating of rooms with high ceilings can be solved by installing models with increased dimensions.

Today, the market offers not only wall-mounted, but also floor-mounted convectors, as well as devices for concealed installation (under the floor, in wall niches or stair steps). All this allows you to easily choose the optimal model for a room with any geometric features.
