Chest pain is a fairly common complaint among people of different ages. Someone tries not to pay attention, calling it "intercostal neuralgia", someone runs to the cardiologist in a panic, fearing heart problems. However, most often such pain serves as a signal of degenerative-dystrophic lesions of the intervertebral discs (osteochondrosis) in the chest. Let's consider the causes and methods of treatment of such problems. You can also learn more about why it occurs chest and back pain on IVR.ua.
Why does the back hurt in the chest?
Pressing pain in the center of the chest, it is not possible to turn to the side, shot, it is difficult to take a breath - it seems that the heart hurts. But all these are most often symptoms of tightness in the chest.
The main cause of all these problems is weak back muscles and displacement of the intervertebral discs. Despite the fact that the thoracic spine is less mobile, the pain here is simply unbearable. Vertebrologists explain this by its special structure: the ribs are attached here, the heads with the vertebrae form joints, there are many perivertebral muscles and nerves. Acute pain between the shoulder blades is the main symptom of nerve root pinching.
It is important to understand that the intervertebral discs themselves do not hurt. The pain syndrome is caused by inflammation and swelling of the muscles. Also, as a result of pinching of nerves, unpleasant intercostal neuralgia, pseudocardiological pains, shooting pains in the shoulder blades, numbness of the hands occur. A vertebrologist and a neurologist will help solve the problem.
Causes of displacement of vertebrae:
- long sitting in the wrong position;
- long driving; lifting weights;
- damaging factors of the spine;
- physical exertion with incorrect body positions.
What will help: treatment methods
The Institute of Vertebrology and Rehabilitation of Ukraine (Kyiv, Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk) uses a complex approach in the treatment of back pain. This means that after a thorough diagnosis, an individual program is prescribed, which includes a whole set of methods for treatment and recovery.
The program includes:
- manual techniques, soft technique "short lever" - will allow to return displaced vertebrae to the correct position;
- massage to relieve muscle inflammation, restore nutrition and blood circulation of structures;
- physiotherapeutic procedures that help speed up the treatment and rehabilitation process;
- kinesiotherapy to strengthen the muscular corset and create reliable support for the spine.
In case of severe pain in individual cases, medical blockades are used in the IVR clinic.
