Water heater installation makes life more comfortable. You are provided with hot water at any time of the day, regardless of the repair schedule drawn up by the water utility workers. A useful device is not eternal, even if it receives the prescribed preventive maintenance. Why did the boiler tank leak?
Tanks often begin to leak, although the owner does not forget about prevention and even installs a filter to achieve better water quality. These measures cannot prevent the accumulation of scale on the heater, guarantee 100% that the housing will not start to rust. Specialists of the service center advise, in case of intensive use of the water heater, to choose one that uses copper or stainless steel.
The leak is easily detected by visual inspection of the water heater. The reason for its occurrence may lie in:
- late replacement of the magnesium anode;
- the safety valve fails;
- violation of recommendations provided by the manufacturer;
- illiterate installation;
- unprovisioned function of discharging excess water;
- disregarding the installation rules.
During the inspection, they found water, rust spreading on the tank, tiles, and saw that the thermometer readings are incorrect - the boiler needs to be repaired or replaced with a new one.
Most of these types of breakdowns can be easily prevented if you entrust the installation of the water heater to specialists and listen to their advice. Then the boiler is guaranteed to last longer, the heating element will not burn out, and leaks will not appear, if the rules of operation are strictly followed.
What to do if the boiler is leaking?
It is impossible to foresee everything, even if you operate the water heater according to all the rules, leaks can occur through no fault of your own. Depending on what caused the leak, appropriate actions are taken to correct the situation.
They changed the magnesium anode on time, during the annual preventive maintenance in the mode of constant operation, the water heater was installed professionally, but a leak was detected from above. If this happens, a complete diagnosis will be needed, which will end with the repair or replacement of the boiler.
It dripped at the bottom, the most likely reason is a violation of the connection of the eyeliner. The pipe connections could be weakened, the sealing was broken. It is easy to eliminate - tighten more, apply sealant.
When a leak appears near the temperature sensor, as a rule, it is necessary to change the gasket. This will eliminate the subsidence of the sensor seat.
Leakage of the fuse, which does not allow the tank to depressurize, removing excess water, can be caused by several reasons:
- failure of the safety valve. This does not happen if the product is produced by a well-known manufacturing company. They discovered a broken valve, the purchase of which was saved, there is only one way out - to replace it with a reliable one;
- clogging of the valve. This could happen when all the water was drained from the tank. Scale particles stuck to the valve, to get rid of them, you need to remove it, clean it;
- pressure surges. If there is such a fault behind the water supply system, then the safety valve and the water heater as a whole will need help - install a pressure reducer.
When the cause of the leak is clarified, it becomes clear what to do. To prevent leaks, use the useful function of draining excess water. When heated, its volume increases, the safety valve will discharge the excess into the sewer.
